Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much does a fence cost?
The price of a fence varies greatly depending on factors such as the type of fence, height, total linear feet of fencing needed, and number of gates. Terrain and site conditions, such as slopes or obstacles, can also affect the price. We typically calculate your quote using ‘per linear foot’ pricing, which accounts for material and labor. The overall size of your fence project can play a significant role in determining your per foot cost. For example, a project requiring 300 feet of fencing will often have a considerably lower per foot cost than one needing only 30 feet. For the most accurate quote, It’s best to set up an in-person consultation with us. However, if you know the amount of fencing needed for your project, we can also provide a rough estimate over the phone or via email.

How do I determine my property lines?
To Determine your property lines, start by reviewing your property survey or plat map, which outlines the exact boundaries of your land and locations of your property pins (metal stakes placed at the corners of your property by the original surveyor). These documents are typically included in your closing paperwork or are available through your county’s property records office. If you cannot locate these, hiring a licensed land surveyor is the most accurate way to confirm your property lines. Clearly identifying your boundaries is essential before installing a fence to avoid disputes or encroaching on neighboring properties.
Simple answer: Locate your property pins.
-
Do you locate underground utilities?
We contact 811 prior to every fence installation. They will mark underground public utilities such as electrical, gas, and internet lines. They will NOT mark any private utilities that may be present. Examples of private utilities include pool equipment, irrigation systems, and electrical lines running to a garage or shed. It is the homeowners responsibility to have these marked by hiring a private utility locator. Venture fence will not assume responsibility for damage to any unmarked underground items during the fence installation.
-
How long will it take to install my fence?
The installation timeline depends on the size and complexity of the project. Typically, a standard fence installation takes between 1 to 3 days, but larger or more intricate projects may take longer. We will provide a clear timeline during your consultation.

-
How do I maintain my fence?
Maintenance depends on the type of fence you have. For example, wood fences may need staining or sealing, while vinyl, aluminum, or chain link fences require minimal upkeep. We provide specific care recommendations based on your fence material.
-
Do you drive or set your fence posts?
We use a driven post or ‘no-dig’ method for the majority of our residential fence installations, as it’s the preferred choice for many of our customers after doing their research. The fence posts are driven 4 feet below grade, ensuring a fence that is just as strong and secure as one with posts set in concrete. Opting for driven fence posts offers several advantages: it significantly reduces labor costs, makes for a cleaner process, and allows for a quicker installation. Posts that need to support a heavy gate will be set in concrete, even if the rest of the fence has driven posts. Prefer to have your posts set instead of driven? No problem! Just let us know, and we’ll adjust your quote accordingly.

Do you offer gate installation?
Yes, we install gates of all sizes and styles, including pedestrian gates, double gates, and custom gate designs. We can help you choose the right gate for your property and ensure it’s installed securely.

Can you install a fence in the winter?
Yes, fence installations can be done during the winter season, although weather conditions such as freezing temperatures or snow may impact the process. We’ll make sure your fence is installed efficiently regardless of the season.
-
How tall can a fence be?
The maximum height of a fence is typically determined by local laws and zoning regulations, but in most residential areas, a side/backyard fence can be up to 6’ tall, while front yard fences may be limited to 3-4 feet high. If you want to build a fence taller than the standard height allowed in your area, you may need to obtain a special permit.
-
What type of fence is best for pets?
Chain link, vinyl, ornamental, and wood fence types are all excellent choices for pet containment. If you have smaller animals and want to minimize gaps, we recommend chain link or vinyl privacy fencing. If you’re considering an ornamental or picket style fence, one thing to keep in mind is picket spacing. The airspace between pickets on standard steel and aluminum ornamental fence panels is typically around 4 inches. Panels with narrower picket spacing can be special ordered and may be necessary if your furry friends are on the smaller side.
-
How long will my fence last?
The lifespan of your fence depends on the material used. Our maintenance-free options like vinyl, chain link, aluminum, and steel ornamental can last upwards of 30 years with minimal upkeep, while wood fences typically last 15-20 years with proper care.
-

Can I buy my own fence material and have you install it?
